- The test is limited to dermatophytes in nails (onychomycosis); it does not detect other nail conditions.
- If the result is negative, there is a high probability (50%) that the client has another nail abnormality; refer to their GP if needed.
- If the result is positive, give the client the sealed test strip and a copy of the leaflet and refer them to their GP. For clients with a chronic or life-threatening disease, GP referral is important.
- Keep out of reach of children.

How do I read the result?
The pink line is the control line and must always be present. A second purple or grey line indicates a positive result. Two lines mean a positive test, one line a negative test.
What do I do with a positive result?
Give the client the sealed test strip and a copy of the leaflet to take to their GP. You can then prepare a care plan with antifungal products.
What does a negative result mean?
There is a high probability (50%) that the client has another nail abnormality, e.g. hyperkeratosis, onycholysis, psoriasis or yellow nail syndrome.
Does medication affect the result?
According to the manufacturer, the test can be performed while using topical products or systemic azole antifungals, and this does not affect the result.
How reliable is the test?
According to the manufacturer, studies show that FungiCheck, at 97%, is the most sensitive test for dermatophytes in nail samples compared with traditional methods.
